Increasing productivity with a bespoke tracking system. How Damian Cronin innovated to benefit both company and customers.

Cabinet making tools and materials

Founded in 1984 Damian Cronin Limited provides bespoke joinery, shopfitting and facilities management from their factory in the North Tyne Industrial Estate. The company operates one of the region’s largest in-house specialist joinery manufacturing facilities, servicing global clients.

Responding to client needs with traditional methods meant production was slow with just one or two projects able to be manufactured at any one time. However, the introduction of a smart QR code system has transformed the way Cronin service their clients, ensuring flat packed furniture can be tracked around the factory floor, and easily assembled by clients.

With the help of a North of Tyne Innovation Recovery Grant, which offers a 50% contribution towards innovation projects totalling £8k to £20k for external expertise or equipment projects costing between £5k and £20k, Damian Cronin has increased the volume of individual jobs processed at any one time in the factory, freeing up staff time to work across the full design and production process, increasing employee skillsets and company outputs.

The North of Tyne Innovation Recovery Grant is funded by the North of Tyne Combined Authority. It is delivered by experienced grant fund specialist, NBSL in partnership with specialist innovation support provider, Innovation SuperNetwork.
